How to enable SNMPv1 and v2c on a TP-Link Switch

Background: TP-Link does not typically enable SNMP by default.

  1. Open your favorite web browser and enter the IP address of the switch. When the web page appears, login. The default login credentials are username: admin and password: admin
  2. Click on the Maintenance tab, then SNMP/Global Config.
  3. Check the Enable checkbox in Global Config and press Apply.
  4. Under the SNMP View Config list in Global Config, verify that viewDefault shows 'include' of MIB Object ID 1. If not, create a View Name/Type and MIB OID that is similar.
  5. Go to SNMP/SNMP v1/v2c and click on the Add (+) button, then SNMP Community Config window will appear.
  6. Enter a community name (password). 'public' is a typical SNMP read only default. You may want something else.

  8. Select MIB View corresponding to the view name from Global Config. Default is viewDefault. Press Create.
  9. Click on Save at the top.
